Tax Justice UK appoints Tom Burgess as new adviser
Tom Burgess, Executive Director of the Progressive Policy Unit has been appointed a technical adviser to Tax Justice UK, the campaigning and advocacy organisation that works to promote the role of tax, to advocate for a more progressive tax system, and to campaign against tax avoidance.
Tom Burgess said
“It is unbelievable that despite so many learned reports recommending significant reform of our outdated tax system, successive governments has taken little or no action. The current tax system promotes and encourages extreme economic inequality when it should be used to make life better for all the people. I highlighted in my 2016 book From Here to Prosperity how the tax system could be used to bust the high level of inequality and the increasingly bad social outcomes that are direct result of this unfair regime.
Tax Justice UK does excellent campaigning work and I intend play a key role in promoting policies that will bring greater justice”

The ‘Paradise Papers’ are just the latest in a long line of tax scandals. The system, which is rigged to benefit the privileged few at the expense of everyone else, is broken. The impact on our public services of these corrupt practices, protected by a veil of secrecy, has been devastating. After seven years of austerity, it is time for irresponsible tax dodging to come to an end.
